ARTS AND CULTURE INTERNSHIPS

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

CALA Alliance offers paid internships to emerging arts and culture leaders with an interest in Latinx arts, cultural production and nonprofit arts management. Interns work directly with CALA leadership to gain experience in many facets of cultural work, including program and event coordination, artist project support, communications and community engagement.

INTERNSHIP INFORMATION:

Schedule:

Duration of spring internships is January-May. Interns are required to work 10-15 hours per week. Occasional evening/weekend availability is required.

Compensation:

Interns receive compensation at the rate of $12/hr. Internships may be eligible for course credit (to be arranged for by intern with authorization from their academic advisor). CALA internship opportunities are available for students and non-students.

Location:

CALA’s offices are located at Arizona Center in downtown Phoenix.

2020 OPPORTUNITIES:

Programs Internship

Duties:

  • Assist in the planning and production of events and programs
  • Support program evaluation and audience research
  • Support visiting artists and contribute to project research and execution
  • Maintain program archives
  • Assist in the creation of event marketing content
  • Conduct artistic research
  • Assist in grant research, writing and tracking
  • Support Sabor annual fundraiser, including event planning and execution, silent auction and raffle management, and communication with artists.
  • Attend and support board meetings /event committee meetings; take meeting minutes.
  • Provide general administrative support to the Executive Director, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interest in arts and culture
  • 1+ year experience with program coordination, event planning and/or project management
  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a small team
  • Bilingual (English-Spanish) strongly preferred
  • Events require evening and weekend availability

Development Internship

Duties:

  • Assist with the implementation of CALA’s Annual Fund Development Plan
  • Assist with donor correspondence, including cultivation emails/mailings, VIP invitations, newsletters, year-end campaigns, and annual reports.
  • Draft and prepare gift acknowledgments and ensure proper processing and coding in Neon CRM
  • Maintain donor database
  • Assist in the preparation of fundraising-related reports
  • Assist in grant research, writing and tracking
  • Support Sabor annual fundraiser, including event planning and execution, silent auction and raffle management, donor tracking, donation input, acknowledgments, and other support as needed.
  • Attend and support board meetings /event committee meetings, including taking meeting minutes.
  • Attend CALA events and assist in set up, implementation, and clean up.
  • Provide general administrative support to the Executive Director, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interest in nonprofit management and/or fundraising
  • 1+ year of administrative experience, preferably in development, grant writing, database management and/or project management
  • Experience with event planning is a plus
  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills
  • Attention to detail is a must
  • Excellent written skills
  • Events require evening and weekend availability
