The artist collective Interspecifics has been selected as the 2018 Guadalajara resident artist for GDL>>PHX Residencias Artísticas. During its residency in Phoenix March 23-May 6, 2018, Interspecifics will develop artistic projects and present a variety of programs free to the public.
Through their engineering-intensive projects, artists Leslie García and Paloma López work at the intersection of science, nature and art, and use sound and Artificial Intelligence to understand the bioelectrical and chemical signals of living organisms as nonhuman forms of communication. The work of Interspecifics is deeply shaped by the Latin American context, where precarity enables new forms of creativity, and ancient technologies meet cutting-edge forms of production.
“For us, sound is a tool that we can use to make tangible phenomena that go beyond our human condition. We also see it as a tool of sensory expansion with which we are able to get into micro and macro worlds in the search of increasing our sensitivity.” –Interspecifics
